To the idyll and back
The idyllic portrayal of “Swiss nature” in the dioramas no longer corresponds to reality. Even when the exhibition opened in 1941 it was rather idealised, although many wildlife and plant habitats which have now disappeared could still be found at that time. These changes are illustrated by the digital transformations of a few selected dioramas. But what do winter sports have to do with the black grouse? Or vegetable farming with the Eurasian curlew? Find out more by visiting the physical dioramas. And don’t despair: allowing more space for water and wild-growth areas can give nature a new lease of life even in today’s cultural landscape.
