Woodlark

Lullula arborea

CH — Vulnerable

CH — Rare breeder, regular migrant

Open, dry habitats with patchy vegetation, diverse flowers and grasses, not too dense, not too tall: this traditional cultural landscape (still found in parts of the Jura or Valais region) is home to numerous  insects, offers plant seeds and provides well-hidden nesting sites on the ground — everything the woodlark needs to survive. But such habitats — and hence the woodlark — are becoming increasingly rare. Here, too, biodiversity is threatened by intensive fertiliser use, mowing and habitat clearance.
