Animals of Switzerland — a natural heritage museum

The historical dioramas of the “Animals of Switzerland” exhibition may have been on display since 1941, but they have lost none of their charm and still speak straight to the heart. These idyllic displays were never designed merely to impart information, but to engender a love of the country’s natural life — as they still do today. They highlight the fact that many habitats have now disappeared, along with innumerable wildlife and plant species. But they also show what can be done to combat these losses: more space for streams and rivers, less use of pesticides and fertilisers, and greater tolerance of wild-growth areas in fields, meadows and woodlands can help to preserve biodiversity.
