Habitat

Tropical rainforests, moist woodland savannahs

Conservation status

Least concern. However, these animals often live in isolated areas where they may be locally threatened or even extirpated as a result of Habitat loss due to forest clearance, as well as hunting.

Biology

Groups consist of one male and a number of females with their young.

The species, first described in 1904, was named after Richard Meinertzhagen, who, as a British army officer during the colonial era, was actively involved in serious crimes against the indigenous population in Kenya (then known as British East Africa).
