Steppes and bushland

Conservation status
Critically endangered. The species is at risk from habitat loss due to agriculture, increasingly dry conditions and introduced diseases such as rinderpest, as well as hunting. Today, these creatures can only be found in a small coastal area of the border region between Kenya and Somalia.

Biology
Hirola live in herds of up to 25 animals, consisting of one male and a number of females with their young. They often also form mixed herds with other species such as gazelles and zebras.
