Habitat
Grasslands, savannahs

Conservation status
Near threatened. The species is at risk from habitat loss due to agriculture, as well as hunting.

Biology
The small family groups consist of one stallion and a number of mares with their foals. The stripes provide protection against blood-sucking flies, as the insects are disoriented by the coat pattern on their final approach.
