Conservation status
Endangered. The species is at risk from habitat loss due to agriculture, as well as hunting.

Biology
These diurnal antelopes live in herds segregated by sex. Adult males are solitary and territorial.

The form displayed here was also known as Jackson’s hartebeest and is believed to be a natural cross between the two species Alcelaphus lelwel and Alcelaphus cokii.
