Grassland savannahs

Biology

Sudan, the last surviving male of this subspecies of the white rhinoceros, died on 19 March 2018. Major efforts are underway to preserve the species by means of assisted reproduction, using frozen eggs and semen — as of the end of 2021, the results have yet to be seen.
