MEK – J4 T2 1 – Inexhaustible, cheap and clean: hydro, solar, wind and geothermal power
In 2022, global energy consumption amounted to around 170,000 terawatt-hours – and it continues to rise. For comparison, 1 TWh is enough to keep the trains of the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) running for about half a year.
Though the share of energy from renewable sources – hydro, solar, wind and geothermal – is steadily increasing, it still accounts for only a small proportion of total consumption.
But a rapid transition to clean energy – away from the burning of all kinds of pollutant fuels – offers benefits for everyone. The knowledge and technologies required already exist and are continuously improving.
